This macro does work pretty well. Just make sure to take note of the simple post changes you have to make in order for the tool list to show up. FC does a good job of detailing this on the Add-ins page of their web site.

Define the tool twice in your tool crib, as you have already done, once as a chamfer mill and again as a spot drill. Make your features using these two separately defined tools, but use the Tool Mapping function to assign them to the same tool number when posting.

Adam,

The add-in on the FC website is called 'Add Stock Tool List and Setup Sheet.bas'. You don't actually need to add all this information, just what you want - such as just adding the tool list to your code. I checked to see if it would add the tool list prior to the '%' character, but it will not. The tool list shows up as a series of comments right after the program number.

I've (tried to) attach a copy of what the start of my programs look like so you can decide if this would satisfy your needs. If it doesn't show up, I'll try e-mailing it to you.
Hi Fred
The writing in the red box in figure B is What I'm looking for on the cnc machine the controller is fanuc and it shows up on the cnc machine monitor as it bypasses it and only starts to read the program From line
:-
%
:0001(Diesel filler body Top block transfer sleeve and mounting holes)

Before that it seems that all the writing doesn't change anything.
It makes it easer to bring up a program and see what tooling is needed for the operation so it can be done in a simpler manner

Regards Adam

Adam,

I don't any experience with controllers much beyond Fadal and Fanuc, so pardon my question: Do you want this information to show in the post just for print out or to send to the contoller. I'm unaware of any controller that accepts comments prior to the '%' character or the program number.

If you could accept the information in lines just after the program number, then there is an add-in on the FC website that outputs tool numbers or stations and descriptions at the beginning of the program.
Wonder if anyone knows of a workaround for our 'catch 22'....

We like to use a spot drill for both spotting holes and chamfering edges on the part.

If we setup the tool under chamfering tools, then we need to give it a small diameter at the tip so it will cutter comp properly. If we don't give the tip a small diameter, the tool comes down on the part edge prior to going into comp and leaves a mark. However, when defining holes, one can not get access to chamfering tools for use as a spot drill.

If we define the tool as a spot drill, we can call for it when chamfering. But, the definition of drills does not allow for entering a small diameter at the end, so a small mark is made on the edge before going into comp.

Anybody have a solution for this? Thanks in advance for any wisdom.

FC Ver. 14.3 XP SP2

I've been doing a lot more with multiple fixture parts and have run into the following problem...wonder if anyone can confim it.

Create a new .mf document, add a setup and create two instances of the setup (individual blocks). With Automatic Ordering on, go into automatic ordering options and choose 'minimize rapid distance'. The operations rearrange properly. Now save the file and close it. Later when I reopen the file, the operation order has reverted to its original layout and 'minimize rapids' is unchecked

At first I thought it was just another instance of Ground Hog Day....but someone here with another seat is seeing the same thing. Just want to know if it's something in the water here or if others see it as well before telling support there is a problem.

BTW, Tool Dominant is checked, so that's not it. Thanks.

Fred

The workaround is to get everything correct and then switch to Manual Ordering prior to saving - operations will be in right order when the file is reopened. FS

We use an EZ Track and an SX 15. I'm not aware of any issues with the EZ Track, but then, I don't run it!

HOWEVER, I have had issues with the Boss posts on the SX 15 that sound much like what you describe.
